Natiral Hair Update + Style (+ product rating)

Image
Hey. thanks for stopping by Bin rocking braids (I installed) for almost 7 weeks. This past Monday I cut it into a lob (long Bob) I actually really liked it and was surprised the braids didn't unravel on their own. It might be my next style. That way I can save $$ by doing it myself. Length check. The front on my hair was between my eyes before I braided up. OK so I use Hask shampoo and conditioner.Pretty good stuff! 7.5/10 I deep condition with this Miss Jessie's rapid recovery treatmen t 6.5/10. I sit under my heat cap for 30mins Rinse- Freshly washed hair. No product First time using this Shea Moisture castor oil line (used the brand before). Heard so much good things. Then I apply some coconut oil to scalp and hair. I section hair as I go, applying my styler- ORS smooth and hold pudding. Love this. 9/10 I twirl section around, not the usual two strand twist and secure with a rubber band I let dry for ...

Dear Natural Hair,

Image
I'm breaking up with you... maybe. Quite frankly I've bin over my natural hair for a while now. The twist out, braid out and that dreaded bantu have become daunting taskS for me. During my loose natural hair journey, ( was never a journey per say but whatever...) I have to say my hair was the healthiest in 2013.  Boy oh boy was I obsessed with my hair back then, but it was a lot of work. The constant deep conditioning, moisturizing and re-twisting. Wow, I had patience! I can't see myself going back to that right now. Kudos to the new moms with fly twist-outs. Two big chops and heat damage later, I'm here at "ugh". So whats next? Back to locs? Another big chop? Perm maybe?? I have nothing against perm. I got caught up in the natural hair movement since my locs were a big hit among the YouTube community. But it was not my identity. I was just a woman with her hair loc'd at that point in her life. I feel like just a few understood t...

Wiggy

Image
I broke down and bought a new wig the other day.  My goal was to get something curly but nothing sat right with me, so I went with a long bob. Straw Set ~ short natural hair

Image
This style was a long time coming. I put it off because I knew it would take up a lot of time and would be quite tedious to accomplish, especially on short hair. Well my cousin offered to help. Four hands are better than two (in this case) so we went for it. State of Hair - dry, stretched and sectioned Products Used - small straws (cut in halves and thirds) -coconut oil (for scalp) - As I Am twist define cream -gel -comb -bob pins Time - about 2.5 hrs Set Time - from about 6pm-1.30pm (next day) Next day Results 2nd day Results Thoughts I had a lot of flake-age the next day. The straws and clips were extremely uncomfortable to sleep with, BUT I will try this style again in a couple months using different  products and probably bigger straws ;) Blessings J

First Wash and Go

Image
I did my first wash and go 3 weeks post big chop. I think i'm late. I feel like that's the first thing I should of done. Anyway, it was a success! My hair was conditioned and I used a little castor oil in my thin areas (left side of my head. I plan on putting castor oil every other that in that section). I massaged a generous amount of pure coconut oil in my scalp and hair. I then proceeded to part my hair into small sections, spray with water and massage the eco style oil in. Didn't check to see how long the process took me (not too long nor short), but it took forever to dry. I was finished at 4.30 pm and at 8.30 pm my hair was about 60% dry. The next morning, the middle was still damp. Its probably better to do this on a warm day but my hair was completely white when I was finished. There goes the wash and GO! Couldn't go anywhere if I wanted to looking like that lol Ok so these pics were taken the night of the first day. This is second day ...

3rd stop, Trader Joe's

Image
Hope your Veteran's Day was Blessed Today after Church and paying bills, I decided to go to Trader Joe's! I picked up the famous Raw Coconut Oil and their Women's multivitamin for hair skin and nails. I've wanted these  things for a while! My first time at Trader Joe's was a very pleasant one. They (the staff) were very kind and organized; two words that don't usually go together in Brooklyn lol. Lets just say, I'll be back! (terminator voice). I posed a bit before it got too nippy I dug deep for my black hat, can't remember where I bought it. Conway top, Weekend jeans, Dr Jays boots and cardigan bought from a friend Blessings J
